Chanel changed fashion forever with the launch of the little quilted handbag in 1955. Ever practical Coco Chanel was tired of carrying her bags in her hands, so she looked toward World War II soldiers’ packs, incorporating their long chain straps into her own carryall. Named the 2.55 bag (after the month and year it was born), that revolutionary bag let women go hands free for the first time.

Chanel has created many adaptations since, from Karl Lagerfeld’s interlocking C logo in the 1980s to FW12’s Lucky Symbol charms, both showcased in this expertly curated assortment. Among the 2.55 bags are other rare collector’s items like the cult-favorite ‘Ladies First’ shopper and a gold stingray Boy bag.
